Sarangkot Sunrise Tour from Pokhara: Times, Price & Tips

By Pokhara Vehicles ·

Watching the first light hit the Annapurna range from Sarangkot is the single most popular thing to do in Pokhara, and for good reason. From this ridge at about 1,590 metres you look straight across the Pokhara valley to Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, Annapurna II, Lamjung Himal and, on a clear morning, distant Dhaulagiri. This guide covers the timings, fares and small details that make the difference between a rushed dash and a genuinely memorable morning.

Where is Sarangkot and how long is the drive?

Sarangkot sits on a hill north-west of Lakeside, roughly 13–15 km by road. The drive from most Lakeside hotels takes about 30–40 minutes on a narrow, winding uphill road. It is short in distance but slow in places, which is exactly why an early, unhurried start matters — you do not want to be racing the sun up a dark mountain road.

What time should I leave?

Aim to be at the viewpoint 15–20 minutes before sunrise. Because sunrise shifts through the year, so does pickup time. As a rough guide we collect guests from Lakeside around 4:45–5:15 am in summer and 5:30–6:00 am in winter. When you book we confirm the exact pickup time for your date so you are never left guessing.

Sarangkot sunrise quick facts

  • Distance from Lakeside: ~13–15 km (30–40 min drive)
  • Viewpoint elevation: ~1,590 m
  • Best season: October to April for the clearest skies
  • Typical pickup: ~1 hour before sunrise (we confirm the exact time)
  • Entry ticket: a small local viewpoint fee (a few hundred rupees), paid on arrival
  • Car/taxi round trip: from NPR 2,500 — ask for a quote for your group and vehicle
  • Duration: about 2.5–3.5 hours door to door

What you will see

On a clear day the payoff is a panorama of snow peaks turning gold from left to right, with the Pokhara valley and Phewa Lake still in shadow below. Machhapuchhre’s twin summit is the star of the show. Bring a light jacket even in warmer months — the ridge is breezy and noticeably cooler than Lakeside before dawn.

Tips for the clearest views

  • Go on a dry, settled morning; autumn (Oct–Nov) and spring have the best odds.
  • Avoid heavy monsoon weeks (Jun–Aug) when cloud often hides the peaks.
  • Ask your driver about the paragliding take-off area nearby if you want to fly down afterwards.
  • Combine sunrise with a stop at Bindhyabasini Temple or the World Peace Pagoda on the way back.

Sunrise, then breakfast

Most guests spend 45–60 minutes at the top, then head back down for breakfast in Lakeside. If you would rather keep exploring, we can roll the sunrise trip into a full-day Pokhara sightseeing tour that adds Davis Falls, Gupteshwor Cave, the International Mountain Museum and the World Peace Pagoda. Just let us know and we will plan the day around your pace.
