Best Time to Visit Pokhara: A Month-by-Month Guide
By Pokhara Vehicles ·
Pokhara is a year-round destination, but the experience changes a lot with the seasons. Choosing the right month means clearer mountain views, more comfortable temperatures and better road conditions for jeep trips. Here is an honest month-by-month guide from people who drive these roads every week.
Pokhara seasons at a glance
- Autumn (Oct–Nov): the best all-round season — crisp air, clear Annapurna views, dry roads
- Winter (Dec–Feb): cool, clear mornings; excellent for sunrise and sightseeing
- Spring (Mar–May): warm, rhododendrons in bloom, occasional afternoon haze
- Monsoon (Jun–Sep): lush and green but wet, humid and often cloudy over the peaks
Autumn: October and November
This is peak season for good reason. After the monsoon washes the dust from the air, the Annapurna range stands out sharp and clear, especially at sunrise from Sarangkot. Days are mild, nights are cool, and mountain roads to Muktinath, Jomsom and Manang are at their most reliable. Book accommodation and vehicles early, as this is the busiest window.
Winter: December to February
Winter in Pokhara is gentler than many expect. Daytime temperatures are pleasant, mornings are often beautifully clear for mountain views, and the crowds thin out. High passes and the highest jeep routes can see snow, so mention your plans when booking and we will advise on conditions. City sightseeing, Phewa Lake and Sarangkot sunrises are all excellent now.
Spring: March to May
Spring brings warmth and colour — rhododendron forests bloom along the Poon Hill and Ghandruk trails, making it a favourite for trekkers. Mornings are usually clear, but afternoon haze can build as it warms up, so we front-load viewpoints early in the day. Lower Mustang and the Kali Gandaki valley are lovely and accessible in spring.
Monsoon: June to September
The monsoon turns the hills a vivid green and keeps prices and crowds low, but it is wet and humid, and cloud often hides the mountains. Occasional landslides can slow highways and rough mountain roads, so we build in buffer time and pick routes carefully. It is still a fine season for Phewa Lake, waterfalls, caves and cultural sights — just be flexible with mountain plans.
Best time quick facts
- Clearest mountain views: October, November and clear winter mornings
- Best for trekking trailhead transfers: autumn and spring
- Warmest, greenest: monsoon (Jun–Sep), but cloudy
- Fewest crowds: midwinter and monsoon
- Book vehicles early: Oct–Nov and major festival dates fill up fast
