Pokhara in 2 Days: A Sample Itinerary
By Pokhara Vehicles ·
Two days is enough to enjoy the very best of Pokhara if you plan well. This sample itinerary balances the classic mountain sunrise, the lakeside sights and a little downtime, so you leave feeling you have seen the highlights rather than rushed through a checklist. Adjust the pace to suit your group — it is your trip.
2-day Pokhara quick facts
- Best for: travellers on a tight schedule who still want the highlights
- Sunrise spot: Sarangkot (~1,590 m), about 30–40 minutes from Lakeside
- Must-sees: Phewa Lake, World Peace Pagoda, Davis Falls, Gupteshwor Cave
- Getting around: a private car with driver ties it together efficiently
- Best season: October to April for the clearest mountain views
- Private 2-day tour: from NPR — ask for a quote
Day 1: Sunrise and the lake
Early morning — Sarangkot sunrise
Start with the trip that defines Pokhara: an early drive up to Sarangkot for sunrise over the Annapurna range and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). We collect you about an hour before sunrise. See our Sarangkot sunrise guide for timings and tips.
Late morning — breakfast and Bindhyabasini
Head back for a relaxed breakfast in Lakeside, then visit the hilltop Bindhyabasini Temple in the old bazaar.
Afternoon — Phewa Lake
Take a boat across Phewa Lake to the island Tal Barahi Temple, then stroll the Lakeside promenade and enjoy an easy evening by the water.
Day 2: Waterfalls, caves and the Peace Pagoda
Morning — Davis Falls and Gupteshwor Cave
Visit Davis Falls, where the stream vanishes underground, and the sacred Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave across the road.
Midday — World Peace Pagoda
Drive (or hike) up to the gleaming white World Peace Pagoda for sweeping views over the lake and valley — a lovely spot for photos before lunch.
Afternoon — museum or free time
Round off with the excellent International Mountain Museum, or keep the afternoon free for shopping, a lakeside cafe, or a short paragliding flight if the weather is good.
Make the two days flow
The key to a good two-day visit is not cramming in more, but ordering things sensibly — viewpoints early before the haze, the lake in the calm of the afternoon. A private car and driver removes the wasted time between sights, which matters most on a short trip. For the full list of what a day of city sightseeing can include, see our Pokhara city sightseeing guide. Got a third day? See our 3-day Pokhara itinerary.
Where to stay and eat
For a short visit, base yourself in Lakeside, the walkable strip along Phewa Lake where most hotels, restaurants and cafes are. It puts you close to the boat jetty and the evening buzz, and keeps morning pickups quick. You will find everything from budget guesthouses to comfortable boutique hotels, and the dining runs from Nepali dal bhat and Newari dishes to wood-fired pizza and lakeside coffee. Booking a room toward the quieter northern end of Lakeside gives you the strip on your doorstep without the late-night noise.
Practical tips for two days
- Carry small cash for temple tickets, the boat jetty and the Sarangkot viewpoint fee.
- Bring a light jacket for the early Sarangkot start, even in warm months.
- Check the forecast the night before — if dawn looks cloudy, we can flip the plan and do the lake first.
- Start early on day one so the sunrise and morning sights are done before the midday haze.
