Pokhara in 3 Days: A Sample Itinerary
By Pokhara Vehicles ·
Three days is the sweet spot for Pokhara. You get the classic sights without rushing, plus time for a day trip beyond the city. This sample itinerary keeps a comfortable pace and leaves room to linger where you like — treat it as a flexible framework rather than a fixed schedule.
3-day Pokhara quick facts
- Best for: a relaxed first visit with a day trip added
- Core sights: Sarangkot sunrise, Phewa Lake, Peace Pagoda, Davis Falls
- Day-trip options: Bandipur, Begnas Lake, or a short trek taster
- Getting around: a private car with driver for flexible, efficient days
- Best season: October to April for the clearest skies
- Private 3-day tour: from NPR — ask for a quote
Day 1: Sunrise and lakeside
Begin with the Sarangkot sunrise over the Annapurnas (our sunrise guide has the timings), then breakfast in Lakeside. Spend the afternoon on Phewa Lake with a boat ride to the Tal Barahi Temple, and ease into the evening along the promenade.
Day 2: City highlights
Cover Pokhara’s classic sights: Davis Falls and Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, the World Peace Pagoda, Bindhyabasini Temple and the International Mountain Museum. Our full city sightseeing itinerary orders these to beat the crowds and the midday haze. Keep the late afternoon free for a cafe, shopping or a paragliding flight.
Day 3: A day trip beyond the city
Option A — Bandipur
The preserved Newari hill town of Bandipur makes a wonderful day out, with a car-free bazaar and big Himalayan views. See our Bandipur day-trip guide.
Option B — Begnas Lake
For something slower, Begnas Lake on the city’s quieter edge is perfect for a peaceful boat ride and lunch away from the crowds.
Option C — a trek taster
Feeling active? A short drive to a trailhead lets you sample the hills — even a half-day walk near Australian Camp or Dhampus rewards you with mountain scenery.
Tailor it to you
Prefer more nature and less driving? Swap the museum for Begnas. Travelling with kids? Trim day two and add lake time. Because it is a private itinerary, the pace and the stops are yours. If you have more time, our 5-day Pokhara itinerary adds a mountain jeep trip; shorter on time, the 2-day version keeps the essentials.
Where to stay
Most visitors base themselves in Lakeside, the lively lakeshore strip that puts hotels, restaurants, cafes and the boat jetty within walking distance. It keeps your morning pickups short and your evenings easy. If you prefer peace and greenery, a night or two at Begnas makes a lovely contrast for the day-trip portion of this itinerary. Rooms range from simple guesthouses to comfortable boutique hotels, and we are happy to suggest options that match your budget and location.
Practical tips for three days
- Book Sarangkot for a clear morning if you can — we watch the forecast and can reorder the days.
- Carry small cash for entry tickets, the boat ride and viewpoint fees.
- Pace day two so viewpoints come early and indoor sights (like the museum) fall in the hazy afternoon.
- Keep day three flexible — the weather often decides whether Bandipur or a quiet lake day is better.
Tell us your dates and interests and we will shape these three days around your group, or match you with one of our tour packages.
